It appears that the bolt is beating my receiver to death.

Call Springfield Armory, Inc. and see if you can send them those photos by e-mail.  No, that is not normal.  It makes me wonder about the heat treatment of the receiver.

At least they are making it right.  Will you have the replacement by the weekend?

That really sux that you have to send it back.  It's stories like this (and this isn't the first one, by far) that make ms still question SAI's QC and keeps me from buying one.

Just curious, but do have an estimate of the number of rounds through the rifle?

Also, does the top of that ledge where it is peened have finish on it?  Your pictures have made me think about some stuff on my rifle...

Uh oh...  Worn off, or possible machined down?

When my rifle was made, that ledge wasn't cut correctly and left oversized.  After the rifle was assembled, SA figured out the rifle wouldn't work and cut down that ledge.  The problem I have is that it was cut after finishing and certainly after "heat treating".

Granted, they could have used carbide tooling to do the work, but I wonder if my rifle will have a similar problem down the road.  Any case hardening that might have been there is gone, assuming it was hardened in the first place.  Most places won't try to machine hardened metal...

I have seen this a lot. If you keep shooting it the rear of the bolt will jump track and the bolt will lock to the rear.

They have let several recievers out that were out of spec in the rear.

if you pull the op rod back sometimes the bolt does get hung up or stuck.

Just alittle update. SAI replaced the receiver, barrel, and op rod.
