Okay, I don't have my M1 carbine just yet (order sent to the CMP yesterday); however, I know that there is a considerable group of people here that have placed orders for the first batch of M1 Carbines being offered by the CMP; many of us have looked forward to this day since Orest Michaels announced that they received a substancial shipment of M1 carbines from Italy back in December.

I just wanted to start this thread in advance of the M1 carbines that are coming from the CMP, but I know there are many others here that already own M1 carbines and I'd like to see what's already out there, so... Show me your M1 carbines.

Hopefully, this thread will get popular and get tacked.

Here's my younger bro with one of my carbines.  Might be my favorite rifle.

Who makes that 30 round mag?  Is it reliable?

Two,
Underwood- A.W. lineouts. Both appear correct, one a CMP "white bag".

That Polytech stock looks and works just fine as far as I am concerned and since I own the rifle, that is the only concern that matters.

There are aftermarket and USGI thirty rounders. I own a Seymour (SEY) 30 round magazine, but I have not had the opportunity to check it's function. I have heard that the real mags function just fine. They can be found at gun shows for 20-25 dollars.

If I could get mine to run as reliable as my other rifles, it would be my favorite.  But for now, it's just a really fun range gun to shoot.

I think they just look better with the 15 rounder as opposed to the 30 rounder.

I am of the same opinion. Fifteen rounds was a lot of bullets at a time when bolt guns holding five rounds were still being used.

Universal? Oh, Lord.

Just be careful, okay? You may want to test it using this process listed at the end of this post here:

http://www.jouster.com/cgi-bin/carbine/carbine.pl?noframes;read=6009

If it fails at any point, DO NOT SHOOT IT - hang it on a wall, use it as a baseball bat, but don't shoot it. It's a ticking time bomb.

In any case, don't even think about shooting it without eye protection.

My CMP Inland is Range Ready.  All metal has been cleaned, lubed and oiled.  The stock was cleaned with Murphy's Oil Soap, the dings steamed out and the surface smoothed.  I wrapped it up with one coat of 50/50 BLO/mineral spirits per day for four days.  I'll get to the range later in the week to see if it shoots as well as it looks.

Okay, here are my two together.  The top one is one I have had for some time.  It is an all original Inland except for the barrrel band.  It has the flat bolt.  The bottom one is the CMP I just got.  It has the round bolt, but some info has that by the time that one was made, they were using round bolts, but CMP had to put the bolts in all those, so I guess it is not the original bolt.  Other than that, it has the original barrel.  The round M2 bolt is actually fine with me as it is the better bolt of the two styles.
