I had filled out the CMP paperwork 3 years ago and never "pulled the trigger" on the order. So I finally got my sh*t together and ordered a Greek return last month before they ran out.  Wife just called to say FEDEX delivered it today!  Less than 4 weeks from the day I mailed the paperwork! Pics to follow when I get home.

a post count of 1327 and no freakin pics!  You tease, you could have held the whole post until you took pics!

You know what you have to do!

On the other hand i can feel for you knowing it's there and you have to wait until you're done at work.  I can imagine you questioning the wife and her answers, "it's brown, old and dirty!"

Ok, I managed to take a few before my camera's batteries died. The rifle is dirty and definately not pretty but it has potential. There were some letters carved into the stock that I couldn't quite make out.

I'd soak that stock and try to steam iron the greek name off the side.

soak, steam, and sand if you think it raised enough to get that off.  if you don't have good lock up or your action is bouncing around loose in that stock, i'd just go ahead and get a DGR Wenig's unfinished stock, stain it with dye made from RIT cocoa brown mixed with alcohol, let dry a few days and seal with tung oil.

I can live with dings, dents, and gouges but that greek writing stuff burns me.  BTW I think that's greek for I love Men. Stupid greek privates.  Apparently they were short on good Sergeants.

Well Monkey man, that M1 is in your care custody and control, do her right.

Other things to look at and watch for is short or busted op rod springs, a new one is cheap insurance.  get the stainless steel one from Orion7.  Also a clip latch spring is a handy thing to have, they get weak and cause goofy clip problems.  Another good thing to have is an ejector spring.  They get shorter and don't kick the spent case out.

for now, I'd clean, inspect, lube and shoot her.  Just post if you have any problems.  The guys here are good at helping you along diagnosing problems.

Enjoy,
SoS

I'll try to get more pics up later. I'm assuming by the serial# the rifle was made (before rebuilds) in 1944?

That is one beat up front handguard.

Put some ammo in that rifle and send it downrange.
