...talk like we're in the twilight of M1 Garand sales? While it may be true that the USGIs are gone and the CURRENT supply of sellable Greek and Dane return rifles is running thin, there are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Garands out there, the CMP still has many in reserve, and the CMP still has many many rifles which have not even been inspected. Reading some posts here you would think that the Garands are all but gone, and all CMP has left is junk. There are MANY threads from people who are legitimately considering spending $1400 on a reproduction "Garand" from Springfield Armory Inc, while totally disregarding the Garands available from CMP.

Let's have some optimism! We might be having some CURRENT lean times, but it certainly isn't "now or never" time, though on the other hand, don't let the potential future supply slow you down from buying a Garand now. There are plenty of very decent rifles available now, and with a little TLC and maybe a bit of added $$ those very decent rifles can easily be turned into OUTSTANDING rifles.

This sight has an extremist trend to it.

British hostages, holy shit here comes WWIII woohoo boys let's go kill em all.

Ammo shortage, dear lord buy as much ammo as you can it'll never be cheaper (this might be true).

Horde mags and stripped lowers, the next AWB is coming.

And so forth and so forth. Times are "bleek" for Garands at the moment, so people might as well work themselves up in to hysterics about something

Yes it does.
The trick is to not fall into that attitude or you'll be depressed and worked up yourself.
For a while I almost put myself in debt to buy an AR in case SHTF happened.
Then I realized my M1 Carbine, Remington 870 Riot, and Browning Hi Power would be more than adequate for anything that was likely to happen.

The gun shows here in Wisconsin are flooded with CMP Garands at "reasonable" prices...$650 -$750...many are in truly good shape though. A new in box SAI Garand can be had for around a grand.

I'm in the same boat, I've almost fell into that attitude multiple times. I now try to stay out of GD and refrain from discussing things there because it's nothing but doom and gloom and sensationalist news stories. Alot of fucked up shit used to happen back in the day too, but we didn't have the media and internet at our fingertips 24/7 to read about it.

Sorry to hijack, but I'm guilty of a couple of those, and I'm glad I did

I see lots of CMP M1s at the funshows here in TX.  I imagine in mid-May, we'll see lots of FAT stamped M1 Carbines for "reasonable" prices as well.

With regards to fatalism about the CMP's inventory, it's true the good old days are gone.  You will never see USGI service grades again...and if you do, they will be in a condition that would not have made the cut for SG a few years ago AND they will be higher prices.

I will certainly continue to do my part to fund the CMP's coffers but I have no delusion that the best days are over.

But if a ban were to come about, I would imagine that someone at CMP would be smart enough to have a "fire sale" of uninspected AS-IS Garands at a reduced price. Suspend limits on those and you could probably clear out the inventory pretty quickly.

possible and sounds like a long shot, but I think CMP must sell their refiles according to grade unles they make or change a speical rule..The board of directors would also have to apporve it.

I wish I had been a lot more hysterical about ammo a couple of years ago.

Gun owners are a fatalistic bunch.  We lived through ten years of AWB and still think in the mentality of "it will never be better than it is now", even though there are a few guns I regret buying back in the 90s, due to there being nicer options available now.
