very nice, but what's that brown nastiness on the receiver?  will that clean off?  and what bbl is on it?

That brown stuff is Doctor Mikes two ball ointment. It's a cure all. Want some?


Its preservative at the end of its life. It has never been refinished.

Yep, all Nazi Garands had Waffen proofmarks.  You should know that by now.

From the barrel date, looks like it might have been part of the famed 1965 rebuild program.  I have a 5.9 SA that was rebarreld witrh a new 5-65 barrel and new birch stock and put away until I got her as a USGI service grade a few years ago.  I ditche dthe birch and went with a DGR set and she looks gorgeous..

I could be wrong, but isn't that brown crud boiled linseed oil?  Whatever it is, I think it comes off with mineral spirits.
