I believe these 2 mags are CMI, the welds are so light on the front they are hard to count, but all the other mags in the group I bought have 12 dimples +1 by the latch to the right (as you face it).  They have no markings and the latch has 2 dimples at the top, and 3 on the bottom.  There is also a horizontal line just above the bottom most 2 dimples on the latch.  Finish is black park.

I had problems with these before and upon inspection, found out that the followers were out of spec.  I replaced these 2 followers w/ ones from 44mag.  The mags still have the same issue.  The bullets are hitting the front of the magazine.

Do these markings indicate CMI manufacture?  If so, would CMI replace them?

Who sold you the magazines originally?

They were purchased from Elite K9 or something like that a few years back.  My memory is kinda fuzzy but IIRC they were not marketed as CMI but "USGI Contract" magazines.

The springs may be the problem. See the Pictorial M14 Magazine Identification Guide at www.imageseek.com/m1a

Well I just tried swapping the spring and follower from a brand new CMI marked mag and it's still having the same problem, so I guess the bodies are bad.  The malfunction is the opposite of "bolt over base" that the green followers were designed to correct in the M16 mag.

When I strip the rounds out by hand, the base of the cartridge is popping up but the nose of the bullet is stuck against the front of the mag.

Looks like they either sold me fake mags or they are CMI mags that do not function.  I'm not sure which but the other 6 or 8 out of the lot seem to work just fine.

You don't have CMI magazine bodies.  CMI magazine bodies have six (3 + 3) dimples on the latch plate instead of five.
