I'm interested in ordering a walnut stock from Dean's.  Are they fat like the Boyd's/CMP stock sets?

No, They are the best aftermarket stocks available and have a very nice profile.

If you cant get a USGI stock then Deans is the way to go.

Another thumbs up for DGRs stock sets. Very nice profile and the fit was perfect. If you order one go ahead and get a fitted unfinished stock and finish it yourself. It is cheaper and a whole lot of satisfaction.

Is it really worth it to spend all the extra money for a DGR stock?  Over let's say a Boyd's?

Definitely. A standard walnut fitted unfinished stock set from DGR is only $165. It will drop in with a tight fit all around and after you finish it yourself will look great.

This is a BLO finish, multiple coats, hand rubbed with furniture grade steel wool rub downs between coats.

FYI
Dean uses Wenig Stocks. One of the premier stock makers in the US. I've got a little experience with them, one of their top production people used to work for Fajen, they built me a couple custom stocks for my trap guns back in my ATA days. Fagen was a producer of Garand and M14 stocks for Uncle Sam. I also purchased a Wenig Bastogne Walnut stock for a Garand Dean rebuilt for me. Honestly it's too purdy for an old battle rifle, but I must admit Dean did a fantastic job on the eintire project.
+1 for John R's walnut BLO finish. If I ever restock another, THATS the look I'd want.

I have both and like DGR's better. Wish I knew about DGR before I bought the Boyd stock set.
