In my limited experience with bayonets on M1s (mostly through living-history or reenactor types), some play is relatively normal...might be why they weren't fixed in combat, that kind of weight moving around at the muzzle could probably mess up your POI pretty well. Disclosure: I don't have a bayonet for my M1, nor have I ever put one on it. Nice piece though. |
Ok ARDog, then what you're saying is that a boyonet for the M1 Garand should be a solid fit and not have this much play in it? Also, how can I tell if the hilt has been changed? It doesn't appear to have been swapped as the two pins in the hilt have the serial number stamped over them... |
I think I was wrong. I have the exact same bayo and have it clipped on a Garand right in front of me. I thought from your front view pic that there was space completely around your ring. After looking at mine I see that your bushing, which surrounds the lower five eighths of the way around the barrel, is there on yours and appeared to be behind the ring in your pic. My Garand bayo has almost no slop up and down and does rattle some from side to side. For reference I am not able to slip a matchbook cover corner between the bushing and the inside ring of the bayonet. There is just enough room to fit a piece of copy paper in there. I also have bayo's mounted on an AR-15 which is far worse for rattle and two mounted on M14 clones. One is so tight that I will have trouble removing it without a rubber mallet. The other is sloppier than the UF on the Garand. The only bayo I have the fits perfectly is on a 1910 M98! ARDog |
