I just got my SA M1A M-21, and it came with the 3rd generation springfield scope mount and a set of 30mm rings.  The rings appear to have allen screws on both sides where they mount to the rail, and it looks like they can be adjust left and right.

Is this normal?

They are high rings I believe b/c the previous owner had the 56mm scope on it.  I plan to put a 16x42 super sniper.

Should I get new rings?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

~Troy

they look pretty high to me ( imo )

i have a set of el' cheapo Warne rings, ( Low ) $23.00 that work just fine, with the Smith Ent. mount

only downside is i cant see through the channel for the iron sights, not a big deal to me.

Those are Millett rings.

Yes they are windage adjustable. I only will use them on guns with an alignment problem between receiver and mount. Most users will bend the adjustment screws through incorrect mounting and over torquing.

If it were my rifle I would change out both mount and rings with something more "up to date" (ie----more milspec-ish...)

Yeah, I've heard that the sadlak? mount is good.  I will probably get new rings for now, and then get a new mount down the road.

I already have alot of $$$ in this rifle, and I haven't even got to play with it...
