I have just done a trade deal which will get me a Trijicon TA11 (.308) with the doughnut.  I have always wanted to run this setup on my M1A,  I already have one on an AR I use for 3 gun and love it.  I am trying to figure out how to mount it.  I already have an ARMS 18 on the M1A and I like that setup.  I have tried my acog on it with the TA 51 and it works, BUT, A couple of years ago I saw an 18 that was specially made for this purpose, milled to accept the bottom of the acog,  not the new one that arms has on their website.  Does anybody know about the old style 18, or have any suggestions about how to mount this scope other than I described.

The item you need is the military's new issue M14 MIL STD 1913/ACOG Mount, NSN 1005-01-535-4430: http://www.smithenterprise.com/products09.html

My new M80 SDM being built by SEI will use this mount to carry a TA-55A

Does anybody know if a TA 10 mount will work with my old style (2 rails) arms 18?

This could be the best ACOG mounting solution for M14 type rifles...

HUGE PICTURE

The entire optic is behind the rear sight base.

I had the milled 18 setup a couple of years ago and posted a couple of pictures of it, traded it off when I sold my Scout (in the market for a new one right now). I never kept any of the pictures I took, but basically I had a gunsmith friend of mine mill the top slot of the ARMS mount at an angle (same angle as the bottom of the mounting surface of the TA11E) on each side and drill a couple of holes to direct mount the TA11E. It was the lowest way to mount it and worked really well. I still had to use a BHI nylon cheek rest to get a good cheek weld.
