Simply, when did the stamped trigger guard begin to be used on SA Garands?  A friend of mine bought a 1940 Garand from the South Store this past weekend, and it had a stamped trigger guard on it, though i'm pretty sure that is not period correct.  OTOH, I have a feb of 44 garand with the milled guard.  I told her that if she can prove that the '44 rifle should have a stamped guard on it to be period correct, than I would swap with her.  I just bought a '42 dane from the South Store with a milled guard, so I would have one of each kind of guard anyway if I made the trade.

So what's the word?  When did SA switch to the stamped guards?

Looks like it started around serial # 3,000,000.  Somewhere in July '44.  Also if your restoring a Garand its good to have the correct guard.  But for a shooter I highly recommend the stamped guard.

Most of the milled trigger guards I've seen are worn at the lugs and won't lock up tightly.
