| I have been considering a battle rifle for sometime. I have never handled a M1A except in a gun shop. could anyone tell me the difference in accaracy over the regular M1A, the scout( 18in) and the SOCOM(16in). at this time I'm favoring the scout. The price is a little steep but high quality rifles do come with a price, but is there away ease the sting of the price perhaps a layaway? the local gunshop does not provide that service. Mags how much do they run? and my last question ammo, can you shoot cheap wolf for plinking? |

The m1a1 is actually a variation of an Abrams tank (also the Thompson SMG and the paratroopers version of the m1 carbine). The m1a is what Springfield Armory, Inc. call their version of the civilian m14. GI mags are atleast $25 (unless you find a good deal; check the stickies at the top of the forum for different's advice on mags). Armalite currently carries some checkmate mags. There are others that have GI mags, like R A Parts and Copes Distributing. You can also try the Taiwanese T-57 mags or the Chinese mags - people seem to have luck with these. As far as the various barrel lengths, I cannot give you any advice because I do not own a scout or a socom. For ammo, just pick-up some south african surplus. I suggest that you look read through various forums that are focused on this battle rifle. Good luck! |
