Okay, so I'm a recovering AKholic wanting a good, long lasting M14 type.  I have heard warbirds, ted brown, and lrb are great.

My question: how does the price compare to the work done for each?  Right now, I'm in line for an LRB standard, but before I pay was wondering if anyone knows about ted brown or warbirds - can I order a completed rifle from them or do I have to have parts?

I am in the same boat as you, with the same goal. I am just a little farther down the research path. These are the prices off the top of my head, and I know they aren't right on, but an approximation. The following prices are for the "standard rifle", but if you are having it custom made, I am sure I could come up with some expensive add ons.

LRB standard about 2100
Ted brown building you a rifle on an LRB reciever with an LRB parts kit 2200-2300
Fulton armory 2000
West texas armory 1800

I think having an M14 clone built with GI parts will always be about 1800-2200 depending on the brand of reciever (LRB vs Armscorp vs springfield) and the smith that builds it for you.

If you want optics and a mount, you are pushing 2500-3000

I am starting to lean towards a springfield, as I am just a recreational shooter, and probably couldn't get the most out of a custom gun. And I don't want to break the bank.
