I have an SA MIA, that with 4 magazines (3 USGI 20rd, 1 SA 10rd) fails to feed. The rifle has <500 rds through it. Here is the odd part. The FTF is always when the rounds are striped from the left side of the magazine. This happens about half the time (1 in 4 total rounds). When it happens, a very slight (less than 1/8") pull and release with most often cause the round to chamber and bolt to close and lock. I have cleaned, lubed, etc. With the op spring removed, the bolt and op rod will engage and disengage by tilting the receiver. In my repeated examinations, I have noticed that the ejector protrudes past the lip of the bolt by a small amount. Is this normal? Could to be hangin up on the case rim and slowing the bolt down? Any advice? Thanks. |
| Update: I removed the bolt, and the ejector was definitely protruding too far, and had a sharp lip that the cases were catching on. I dissassembled the bolt, and using some 400 grit sandpaper and a few jeweler's files, slightly shorted and smoothed the ejector. I then reassembled the bolt, sans firing pin, and worked a magazine's worth of cartridges through with no problems. I have reassembled the bolt with the firing pin, and will take the rifle to the range tomorrow to see if the problem has been corrected. Will post results for any interested. |

good to hear you're back in business. my first instinct would be to check the mags too. even if you bought them as "USGI" there is a LARGE number of imposters out there, and the number grows every day as the true supply tightens. check out different's mag guide if you need ID info. even the stock SAI 10 rd mags arent' great. mine is more or less reliable, but definately not 100% |
