Well guys, what do you think - paint the stock (flat OD green) or leave it as is?

I kind of like the authentic used look but...

paint it

Leave it.

I bought two with the intentions of trying my hand at painting. One OD and one grey. Bought the paint and everything. Bought extra handguards. Months ago.

They are still the original brown with stencilled numbers on the stocks. I kinda' like it.

Gives them that Napolean_Tannerite look without the cement application method.

I'd say depends on markings. If you've got a bold cartouche and P marking I wouldn't mess with it, but if you can't see much of one, or if she's a beater, get out the sander my son.

I believe hes refering to the fiberglass vs the wood stock

Fiberglass has not cartouche or "P"roof mark to worry about

USGI fiberglass from Fred's - painting a wood stock would revoke my ManCard

True enough - however, common sense would prevent that horrible thought from even coming near to my cranium... What was the secret to the nice camo job on your stock?

Cockedandlocked,

How did you make that rifle fixture, and what did you make it out of? It looks like it's sheet metal with a pedestal made out of some kind of channel or tubing. I like it!

I needs me one o' them!

         Nice lookin' M1A, BTW!

actually it was quite easy
masking tape and krylon camo paint

base paint flat blk

after it dried, taped off stripes with painters tape,  painted next coat of kahki, tape then od green after it was all done remove tape

one thing about krylon if ya dont like it ..... strip it and do it again

use citrus strip to remove old paint but not ori usgi brown

I havent sealed it yet with clear and may not. Not sure yet

this thing has hit the range several times and no problems with the paint flaking or chippinig yet. and it has got hot with no after effects

Krylon seems to be pretty tough stuff
