i went to a fun show yesterday and met a guy who "might" be selling his Springfield M1A. i gave him my number and said "come up with a price and call me"  which he did yesterday evening.

his story- "i bought this M1A brand new about 10 years ago, its got alot of USGI parts, i shot maybe 50 rounds through it and havent used it since, and i have 3- 20 round magazines for it"

he called me with a price- $1,000

when i got back to the fun show today i sold a walther ppk and used the rest of the cash in my pocket to buy the M1A from this guy.

the gun is in beautiful shape and looks like its barely been used... like 50 rounds kind of barely used.

im so happy to be part of the M1A AND AR families now!

question though- whats the purpose of the flip-up part on the end of the buttstock that covers the latch for the cleaning kit compartment??

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

shot the M1A today, unfortunatly it was in an indoor range but... it fucking ROCKS!!! i only shot 8 rounds through one before....  i prefer shooting it standing up.

M1A- $1,000
.308 bullets- $ 50.00
Range Fee- $13.00
shooting your own M1A for the first time-  PRICELESS

update #2

i got bored so i thought id post some pics- me + M1A upper left corner, the g/f and the M1A lower left corner, bottom right corner i took some quick shots at 125 yards +/- i still need to figure out which ammo the rifle prefers and make the final adjustments.

I believe that was designed for use in full auto firing.

Welcome to the family.  That's a very decent price.  Especially with USGI parts.  What is your bolt?  If you don't mind me askin.

edite to add:  Oh yeah, where's the stinking pictures??????????????????????

as for pictures...

i dont have a digital camera... sorry- but ill take some with the disposable camera and when i get them developed ill posts pics for sure

any idea how the hinge plate would help in the full auto firing? put it over the shoulder or something?

I'm not sure how it would help.  But yes, over the shoulder.

so how do i know if its a GI bolt or not??

it has a 7 digit serial number on the bolt starting with 77xxxxx and under that it has stamped on it-   TRU ZH

the handguard is a fiberglass type of vented handguard, and there is a different type of handguard out there i was told that i might want to put on there instead.

im kind of excited to get to know this rifle and see how it shoots.

JJREA is correct regarding the hinged butt plate for the M14 or M14A1.

Are you sure it's not TRW????  That's probably what it is, and some say that's the best.  It seems to be the most expensive every where you look for one!!

The Flip Up butt plate was to be used when firing full auto prone with a bipod.

The "flipped up section" sat on top of the shooters shoulder to keep the butt from slipping down during Full Auto Fun!

The real reason that there is a flip-up buttplate is to keep you from bump-firing an M14 from the hip, as it'll pinch the heck outta your forearm.

The plate on the stock comes in handy for me when I have to reload from a prone and I think I can hold the gun a little steadier than whithout the downside is that when you are moving with it out you will hurt yourself with it

i hate you....

my only experience with this kind of gun comes from a buddy of mine who is a FFL/collector.  he let me put a mag or two through his FA M14.  that was FUN and FAST and HARD!

Save that slotted handguard for dressin it up, they can be brittle

You can get  solid handguards here

I found that out the hard way today at the range. Rapid fire shooting from the hip, that little flip-up plate will pinch the shit out of your arm! Left a nice blister/abrasion about an inch long.

But I still had fun shooting my Springfield M1A!

The number on your bolt starting with 77 is a drawing number, not a serial number. You will not be revealing any private information by posting the number.

Congrats on your score. And hurry up with the pics already.
