Not to buy this?

Besides the $1900 MSRP.

Can the VLTOR rail system be purchased separately and then be installed a an original Socom? I went to the Vltor website but no mention is made of the rail.

All the M1A's are on allocation with the distributors right now but the SOCOM can still be had for around $1300.

I'm not sure what all the dangly bits would cost if you bought them separately.

Me personally would buy a Bush/Scout/Squad rifle and throw that rail system on one of those if I wanted it (although when I get my 'short' rifle it will go in my Sage EBR stock that is collecting dust.)  I dont see any reason for a 16" .308 when a 18" can be had without much compromise to overall length.

I already have a DSA FAL and a regular M1A. The scout with the sage stock would be on my list but in CT I cannot have a folding or collapsing stock, and if I recall the Sage does have a collapsable.
