A friend has a M1 from Springfield Armory and the nmumber is in the low 1,000,000 serial.  The numbers on the barrel do not match the gun, or so I am told by another friend familiar with M1's.

The rifle is in real good shape, not mint, has some sratches, but for the most part looks good.  What is the M1 worth?  I want to buy it and want to be fair to him.

I depends a lot on how worn the barrel is. Since the barrel does not match the receiver it is probably a arsenal rebuild and may have a lot of barrel left. Get yourself a standard M2 .30-06 round and see how much bullet shows when you stick it in the bore. If it is very little the price should be closer to $350, if it is near a quarter of an inch the price should be closer to $450.

it also depends on which # you are looking at,
if the barrel date does not match ( within a month or 3 based on which book you read) the manufacture date of the receiver, then it is not original, maybe

which honestly doesn't mean that much if it is going to be a shooter,

try the CMP's website, for pricing of what they sell

Without seeing it, I'd guess in the 600 dollar range.
