I ordered a USGI service grade Garand last week after I heard they were running low... but now that it seems like I may never get my order filled, I'm debating whether to change my order to a Greek service grade or a USGI rack grade.

Reasons for USGI rack grade:
- actually used by a real army
- accuracy isn't a big concern for me, I probably couldn't shoot it too often and I might get it rebuilt soon anyway
- cheaper

Reasons for Greek service grade:
- better quality out-of-the-box
- nothing physically different from USGI
- probably get here in time for my summer break

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I picked up a Greek SG a few weeks ago before the price increase. When I called the CMP for advice on what to get for use in Garand matches, that's what they recommended. The comment was "They are just like other USGI Garands, except they made a boat trip." When I stripped it down for cleaning, many of the parts looked like new. The barrel has a TE of under 2 and a ME of 1. I had it out this weekend & it shoots very well.

The Greek Service grades are way better shape than the USGI that are avaliable.

Also look at it this way....by the time you get a racker....put a new stock and barrel on it you will have just as much or moe invested then if you just went with the greed SG.

I picked up three SG greeks last month and they were all excellent TE =1 MW =1   Wood was all solid and they just don't come in better shape...two of mine are as close to being a new garand as you will ever get....unless you actually buy one of the NIW garands on the CMP auction later this year.

Have fun.....CS
