This has probably been beaten to death but, here it goes. I was at the indoor range yesterday and in the gunshop they had a new Socom. Already have an M1A but the Socom felt pretty nice. Any of you own a Socom? What has been your experience? It seems a little pricey compared to what I paid for my M1A. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking? Thanks

I don't own the Socom but one my best friends just bought one and I had the chance to shoot it. It does shoot  pretty damn accurate and has a good feel to it.  After shooting it I am seriously thinking about buying one myself.

I have yet to fire one - I did fondle one in a SAGE Chop Mod stock about a month ago
I have read nothing but good things about the SOCOM. If you get one please post your findings.

Thanks

I'm sure you'll get a response from someone who actually has bought one here pretty quick.  Have not bought nor fondled one yet, but from the research I've done they tend to be running in the $1400-1600 range.

They are pretty sweat. Pricey but sweat. I love mine. Lots of fun to shoot. I like folding up the stock and letting 20 rounds go!

I saw them a bunch of times for $1400 otd. Of course, when I went to buy mine, it was 1500 + tax. Plus all the other goodies.

Bought mine right after Christmas. At this point I've got almost 1,000 rounds through it without issue. Accurate, fun and all mine.

I bought one a few months back and promptly installed it in a Sage EBR and all I can say is wow!  I was expecting the rifle to have strong muzzle flip since it was only 16", but it barely seemed to flip more than my M4.  That muzzle brake that they installed on there really does a good job of controlling flip.  The only gripe I have is that the rifle in the new stock is HEAVY compared to my other rifles (AK, M4, etc.).

There was on at a gunshow last summer for $1300. This is the lowest price I have seen since then. SOCOM

How do you like that sage stock? Saw one with scout installed, fall off counter (waist height) and totally bent behind the pistol grip, to the point where it wound no longer colapse. I was considering puchasing one myself till I witnessed that yesterday. Seems like a fall from a Humvee or a fall and your body wieght come down upon it would destroy it. ugh Not, my impression utilitarian weapon, but definitly looks cool.

This is kind of suprising considering that pretty much everything behind the grip (I believe)is titanium.

That one bolt and the chunk of whatever type of metal it goes through just behind the plate with sling connector loops, both bent. I wish I could have taken pics but the store owner was pissed. It was not that hard of a fall onto the carpet.

ETA> Flame Red  that is sweet!

I bought my Socom for 1529.00 plus tax..etc..  Shoots absolutely unreal.  Even my wife likes to shoot it.  She actually claims that it belongs to her!  It's incredibly accurate, light weight compared to my para FAL, and very simple to break down and clean.  (did I mention..the loudest at the range?)
Ok....here are the cons...I was very unlucky with my Socom...I had some front sight alignment issues.  After I bought it, I noticed that the front sight was rotated clockwise in relation to the rear sight.   The barrel and gas system are integrated, so both were rotated clockwise.  I sent it back to Springfiled Armory and they took care of it in a couple of weeks.  I have to say that S.A.'s customer service is very good, I am pleased.  Maybe I am the only Socom owner that this has happened to, so don't let me scare you (it happens!).  I still love my Socom..but, it was pricey..so I guess I have to!??!  The painted stock in my opinion should be more durable.  The paint flakes easily, so don't be rough on it.  I am considering an aftermarket stock but I do not like the looks of the Sage.  Maybe I'll wait for some of the stocks (Vltor?) that I saw in some of the SHOT show pics.  If you have the money...buy it.  They are overpriced in my opinion....but then again, I had to have one.  Every time I shoot it...it's worth it.  I hope this helps.....

i have a socom and a super match M1A.    its great man.  i did have to replace the extractor to a US GI.  Mine has a GI trigger group and op rod (with socom 16 on it)

its one of my fav guns.  it feels really good and shoulders nice and fast.  its accurate too depsite what some people have said.  i find mine to be a accurate fast shooter.  i shoot it with 100 yards mostly.

its one of my "untradable" items.  i think i will keep it.

as for your price, you guys are going to think im lying but i only have about $800 dollars in it from horse trading.

i def. count it a blessing i didn't deserve.
