| While cleaning out my safe I found what appears to be a new complete bolt for m1a type weapon it is marked as follows 7790186 and under that TRW ZJ any ideas? Whats it worth? Thanks |
TRW parts are genrally regarded as top quality. though the fact is all USGI parts were held to the same standard. If you can honestly say that the bolt is new and unused and visual inspection would verify your belief, ask $150.00 for it. Be prepared to provide photos. Put it on the EE here, at the firing line.com and in the weapons forums on your american back yard.com |

Look, I'm just trying to help you out. If what I said was taken the wrong way, I aplogize. All the manufactures (TRW, H&R, Winchester, Springfield) made parts that WERE shipped to Israeli. These parts were marked with certain letters IE: "ZJ". What you have IS a TRW bolt. In my experiences I have sold 100's of M14 parts. What I noticed is that the israeli imports sold for a bit less, not much but less. There are some gun fanatics (imagine that) who want USGI m14 parts only. You got your self a great find. Its a little gold nugget. Good luck on the sale I'm sure anyone would love to have a new TRW bolt. |

"ZJ" is not a Israeli marking. It is the heat treatment lot code. ALL USGI manufacturers put a heat treatment lot code on their bolts. Winchester used double letter identifiers like "EE", "GG" and "HH" for heat treatment lot codes. TRW bolts are the most desireable of all USGI M14 bolts. No joke. Are they BETTER than other USGI bolts? No, but they have high collector value. Why? Because TRW M14 parts have higher desireability due to the TRW Mystique. What is the TRW Mystique? The answer can be found in the FREE online book M14 Rifle History and Development at www.imageseek.com/m1a akira is correct that the Israelis did mark the M14 bolts in their possession and USGI M14 parts exported to Israel were imported into the USA in the 1980s and 1990s. HOWEVER, an Israeli marked USGI M14 bolt will have a Hebrew alphabet letter stamped directly under the USGI manufacturer ID and USGI heat treatment lot code. You'll see these on the 200 Springfield Armory, Inc. IDF M1A rifles. HTH, Different |
