First off, can someone give me the Cliff Notes version of getting a Garand via the CMP? Cost? Time? Quality of the weapon, etc.? Also, is there any way to fix a box magazine (fixed or otherwise) under the M1 in order to increase the magazine capacity from 8 rounds? Thanks... |
All your questions are answered here: www.odcmp.com/ Cost? $295 (Greek repat) - $1200 (collector grade) Time? Currently around 4 - 6 weeks or you can go to the CMP North Store and pick it out and take it home Quality? Good to excellent, though at it's heart it's an excellent quality, American made, WWII battle rifle Box magazine - Assemble a BM-59 parts kit on a modified Garand receiver. Sarco sells the kits and the engineering drawings for the mods necesaary to the receiver. Kits are $695. |
Screw that noise! You know how many clips and rounds I can buy for that? Thanks for the info... ETA: Uh, wait a minute.... You mean you don't have to be a resident of Ohio to pick one up? |
Not if your state of residence allows you to own a Garand. You just have to meet the requirements for purchase listed on the website. I'm planning on making a road trip out there next month to pick up the 8 you are allowed to buy in one year. |
| They have both there at the north store. They are the governement and they can even sell mail order. You do have to follow all their rules and guidlines and belong to an affiliated club. See my other post in this section. I just picked up an excellent greek that is fantastically accurate for $295 at the north store. I will get one more before summer is out. Also, the high cap thing? Thats what I have an AR and AK for. This is for long range accuracy. With practice the garand reload if darned fast. |
| Also found out something interesting today when I went back to CMP to get some more Garands. Apparently if you've passed your NICS check, it's good for 30 days - so any more purchases within that time period does not require another background check. I don't know if that applies to all NICS checks or only those by CMP. |
![]() My question was rhetorical! Considering the amount of clips and ammo I can buy for what that mag kit costs, it's just not worth it! Thanks for the info, though! |
