Have the DMR almost there, but figured a Harris bipod would be a nice in-expensive add-on for the time being. My stock has a hole right before the front sling loop and thought this would be the right place to install the stud. Correct me if I am wrong. At this point, the inside of the stock has been beveled slightly. This concerns me as now the wood is as thick as it is in other areas. I am thinking about filling the void with some kind of filler to strengthen the area around the stud and bipod. Will this interfer with the gas piston in any way? Any help would be appreciated. |

Contact Harris via phone or e-mail and talk to a rep about their extensive line of bipod mounts. IIRC one of them is well-suited to the M1A. I wouldn't just drill a hole (or use a pre-existing one) through the wood, I'd much rather reinforce the wooden fore-end with a mount designed for just thst purpose. Front sling swivels have been known to loosen and even pull out; the fore-end is not the strongest part of the stock, IMHO. Main thing to remember is to make certain that your installation in no way interferes with any of the internal components, such as the op-rod and so forth. |
