| I remoed the front sight post, removed the retaining screw, placed the rec'vr in a vise, and tried to budge the nut with the appropriate pliers, a wrecked 3 pairs of castle nut pliers, am I doing something wrong? |

By "retaining screw", do you mean the small allen head set screw that locks the castle nut? If not, then remove it before loosening the castle nut. If so, then clean around the castle nut thoroughly, and check to see if it is corroded or if it is somehow soldered to the barrel. If it's corroded, soak for a week or so in penetrating oil, and re-try. You might need to apply heat, to the nut only (insofar as possible), in the form of a MAPP gas unit. |

If you removed the special lil' Allen screw (don't lose it, it really is special) the castle nut should loosen almost immediately as it's not bearing against anything for the first turn or so. Glug some CLP in there and let it sit if overnight you're having trouble. -- Chuck |
