| Ive borrowed a friends M1A to shoot a highpower match but he did not have any advice for me as for adjusting the sights for the different ranges that we will be shooting( 200,300,600 yards) I dont even know how far each click moves the sight. The rifle is a standard mod Springfield. It is zeroed for 200. Can anyone give me a ballpark number of click to go up from 2 to 3 and from 3 to 6? I just need to be on paper and can fine tune from there. Any advice will be very helpful. thanks! |

If the sight is zeroed for 200 yards, loosen the screwn in the center of the elevation knob and move the index so 2 is next to the index line. Tighten and click up to 3 for 300, etc. This works for battlesight shooting, where the point of aim is point of impact. For bullseye shooting, where the bullet strikes a distance above the point of aim, you'll have to do some simple math to get on the paper. But anything exact will have to come from actually shooting at the desired range. Since bullseye shooting is done in "clicks" rather than the range index it doesn't matter if the index is in yards or meters, the clicks are the same. Each click of the M14 (or M1) rear sight will move the strike of the bullet 0.7cm at 25m. That's 2.8cm at 100m or 1" at 100yds, the defination of 1MOA. -- Chuck |
| Elevation of sights is one minute per click (NM sight has a hood thathas a notch). The NM hood is half a minute change according to if the notch is at 12:00 or 6:00 (only at these points, nothing else on the ratation is meaningfull). If the notch is changed from top to bottom, you just went down a half minute and vice-versa. Start at 12 clicks elevation for an approximate 200 yd zero, 3 clicks more up for 300 yd, 8 more for 500 yd, and 4 more for 600 yd. These numbers are only approximate and depend mostly on what ammo you are using. |
