Hey ACRfcom, had an ACR collecting dust in the safe for about a year now that i bought off a friend. Ran about 200 rounds through it suppressed without any issues. I wanna know what parts are wear items, things i could replace now that would render it ready say for a rifle class or HD. I hear that the piston spring is a common failure point. Are the extractors standard ar15 extractors? The charging handle seems like its a weak point. Any thing i can do to overhaul the rifle and or parts to keep on hand to keep it running until the barrel it shot out?

Really nothing on it is weak or a wear item.  The piston spring is fine, I've had the same one for close to 30k.  You may have heard that because bushmaster upgraded it early on.  My firing pin spring is shorter than a new one and my firing pin has some mushrooming on the rear where the hammer hits but it hasn't effected anything, the tip looks like new and I do also have a much harder hammer spring from the hiperfire 24c trigger in it.  Older models do have a pin in the charging handle assembly that can fail, mine went at like the 8 or 10k mark. But BigDog has an upgrade that solves this plus I believe newer ACRs have fixed this as well.

It accepts AR ejector and extractor parts.  I upgraded both pretty early on.  Other wise it's designed on purpose to be a very low wear low maintenance rifle.

If you want to really know what wears BigDog has been raping the crap out of his full auto with just about every caliber on up to 6.5(great video lol).  If somethings going to fail it'll be on that but we'll never be able to put ours under that stress lol.  It may be a good way to find weak spots though.

Post a pic of your spring and regulator.  That changed the shape for easy reference.

If you have an older style brass deflector they can wear out. Mine went tits up during a 2 day carbine class and caused malfunctions on almost every mag.

They don't wear down and cause issues the have a poor deflection angle.  It can bounce the brass back into the chamber.  That's where all those marks on my reliever came from under the chamber.  I mean they do wear but that wasn't what caused the malfunction lol.  So it's more of an upgrade part but yeah it should be replaced.

Here's the marks from the brass and what the new deflector looks like.  The old one's just a square.  BigDog has a few of the new ones in stock I believe.

I can't figure out how to load a picture here, but I assure you they can deform. I posted a bunch of pictures of mine on the ACR Facebook page.

I know they deform, my old one looked like someone took a dremal to it.  I'm saying the deformation isn't the cause of the malfunctions.  The malfunctions are caused by the angle of the v1 deflector bouncing brass back towards the chamber, hence all the marks on mine below the chamber.  Those are from the brass smacking into the side of the reciever.  At one of my first matches a guy on the Remington team that was part of their ACR project pointed it out to me.  This was one of the problems thrle Remington team found, fixed and sent over to bushmaster early on.  The Remington team also upgraded the ejector spring and lightened the carrier which is where I got all the info for that a few years ago.  We broke down his and my rifles and went over what Remington had changed.  It was quite a bit lol.

Here's what I mean.  You can see the difference in the angle when it enters the chamber and where the brass is hitting

I understand what you are saying.

Who did the work to your carrier, and how did it improve function? My ACR is the rifle I grab 99% of the time and I would like to ensure that it is as reliable as it can be.

The carrier was done by Mod1 Firearms.  I have them in both of my ACRs and I've put a few thousand through on this one.  The effects are pretty noticeable in terms of recoil, follow up shots and faster fire rate.  They charge only 125 with a quick turn around time.

Here are 2 threads on it
