Quick question. Say I have an approved form 1 for a can I plan to build. Can I build something like the Griffin Armament Optimus, where the main body of the form 1 has baffles held in place with an end cap, then I have an additional extension with a few more baffles that can replace the end cap? Or would I need to send diagrams to the BATFE for approval before I would potentially build something like this?

The length listed on the approved form 1 would be the overall length of the can with the "extension" installed.

As odd as it sounds. I was told no. For some reason Form 4 suppressors are good to have additional end caps, and can be modular but not form 1's.

Mfr's must file, and be approved, a variance for modular suppressors. This is not available for the Form 1 individual.

I'm not sure what process Griffin went through, but in SiCo's case to have the extra endcap they designed a two piece brake, submitted it and had it declared not silencer parts.  Then sold the end cap piece off of it as a 5.56 endcap.  Not something you can do as manufactors only can submit parts for classifications.

I had a somewhat of a modular can approved, a DM can that can be mounted in reflex without all parts (baffles) installed, then parts added in full configuration for standard mount.
