I have decided to take the plunge and build my own suppressor for my AK. I have ordered from SD tactical 7.5" carbon steel tube, stainless spacer tube, freeze plugs, carbon steel end cap and a 14x1 LH thread protector. My question is do I have to do anything special for the indent pin on the front sight post of my Ak? Do I have to get a special brake and attach my suppressor to the brake or just screw the suppressor on as tight as it will go and call it good? Any tricks And insight of this is much appreciated.
Another ?
How durable are the freeze plugs? Do they hold up to a sustaind rate of fire? Any idea of how long they can last?
Pretty excited about this project. About $150 . Can't go wrong throwing that on a AK.....
Thanks

Tag for interest. I have been tempted to get a 14x1 LH threaded cap for my 7.6" 9mm tube.

I'd toss the Steel spacer tube, it is undersized and loose in the tube.  It is so thick it takes up a lot of the tube's volume which effects performance and weight.  I haven't tested the SS plugs but the regular plugs had extremely short life for me, ~500rds on 223 spec ammo.  I'd guess it would be in the ballpark of commercial cans, AKs are not the best to suppress so just keep expectations in check.

I can speak to durability of stainless freezeplugs (purchased from badgerridgeind)... my form 1 can has around 2.5k rounds of 5.56 on a 11.3" upper and half of that was on a FA lower. I haven't noticed any degradation in the FP's

this was after the first 1,000+ rnds on FA

I went with one of these
http://sdtacticalarms.com/SDTA-Muzzle-Break_p_65.html

I'd go with the Ti spacer over the steel, weight & volume, weight & volume.  I used the brake over direct thread for more muzzle dispersing of gases.

I indexed it to the front sight, notched it with a dremel. Then used some red loctite, or was it rocksett? Either way Go with the Brake, this way you can utilize the same can on other projects.  Now i went over sized on the baffle and end cap bore. IIRC .390maybe .400. It's been a few cans ago. So the ol memory ain't what it use to be.  If you pm me with a reminder, i'll pull the notes i have for specifics/

Confused yet?  The only solid advice i will give. Triple check bore to baffle & end cap clearance.    Like i said, i went over the 30 cal / .311bullet dia by a few. The can pulls double duty on a 10" SBR Draco & 16" Romania with US (GM) barrel.
