Looking at buying a silencer for a 300 BLK AR type pistol/rifle I'm looking at something more pistol style as I want to be able to fit this weapon in a pack! Not looking for long range shooting 100 yards at most for this weapon. What I wanted to know is how shot of a barrel can I go? Making sure I can use the most from this round!? Thanks!

This caliber was designed around a 9" barrel, so I'd go with that.

8.495621"

In all actuality, we need to know more. Longest distant you expect to shoot and kill? Length of the suppressor?

Keep in mind, an 8.5" or 9" barrel with a can on the end is roughly 16".

300 was designed to burn up its powder in roughly the first 9" of barrel. I like 8.5" to 9", but depending on how much velocity you need, I've seen barrels as sort as 7.5".

are oxymoronic.  If you want the shortest barrel, the answer to that question is whatever it takes to make a 300BLK stabilize.  If you want to get the most from the round, that's a different answer.
Decide what you want.

I run 8.5, works great with a can.

I run an 8" 1:7 twist and it shoots anything I put through it. I primarily shoot subs but I can still get 1" groups with Barnes 110 grain black tips, and I have killed pigs out to 150 yards with them.

I started out building a 14.5 pin and weld, and then did what everyone on here said i would...
10" SBR.

I was VERY  suprised by how little I lost with the 10" barrel compared to the 14.5.

I was thinking short for subs and the 14.5 for hunting, but at this point....I havent shot the 14.5 since those velocity tests.

You said something important...back pack.

A 8" barrel with a thread protector would be almost 4" shorter than my 10" with YHM mount.

I picked up my can yesterday and on the 10", its about 1/2" shorter than my 16" 5.56 upper

I have NOT ran velocity tests with the can installed.

Subs 208gr ELD
Supers 110gr Barnes tac-tx (loaded hot)

May I ask what barrel you have?  I am wanting a 1/7 twist, but it seems like most are making them in 1/8.

Thanks

I put an 8.5" Noveske and a Rugged Razor on mine.

The gun is awesome, ATF waiting times not so much.

A 1:8 twist will stabilize a 220 HPBT and RN @ 1050fps
My 8", 1:8 has no issues w/ 240's at sub velocities

Noveske 8.5 w/Omega direct threaded.  Runs great and I've been more than pleased with it. Accurate, quiet and no noticeable blowback.

My 9" SBR with 1:7 Ballistic Advantage barrel, Law folding adapter and Rugged Suppressors R3 flash hider measures just under 20"  I also keep a dedicated pistol lower with a Law adapter.  I was leery about them at first but have had no problems.

I run 7.5" and 8" .... to me, those rifles are tiny suppressor hosts.  If I hunt, I have two guns with me.  A little tiny blackout for vehicles or heavy brush, then a long range one (308 or 6.5).  Smaller game at closer distances, why defeat the purpose of the rifle by putting a really long barrel on it.

If I want more punch and range, I just move up to a bigger caliber.

After fighting the 300 blackout range debate in my head for the past 6 months, I adopted a similar method to this as well. For 150 yards and in the 8.5" 300 will be my go to rifle. For anything past that, or areas I have no idea what distances ill be shooting, I'm working on an 11.5" 6.5 Grendel. Both will get brought on any hunting trips as well, so I've always got a backup.

Thinking about getting my 10.5" FN cut down to 9".

It's a 1/8 and I'm a little worried about a possible baffle strike with heavy subs if I went any shorter than 9".

Anyone try a 6.75 inch 300 blk barrel on the mcx?

Those barrels are 1/5 twist.  What would the symptom be of rounds not stabilizing? Keyhole get, or accuracy issues?

I'm a small game hunter for 90% of the year and have too adopted the two gun method

Rocking a 7.5 300blk for shots at critters less than 100 yards with a 5.5" form 1 can , but run a canned backup 22-250 for anything past that.

I like the idea of an 8 inch, but am moving to 10.5 inch barrels for hand guard selection.

Thanks it's one of my favorite guns and is dedicated suppressed with the Omega.

The handgaurd is a 10" Seekins MCSR V2 M-LOK rail along with a seekins upper & lower.

The hangaurd works great because it has a 1.8" ID and mounts with set screw so it is easily removed if needed.

Love those rails.  I have an 8 in KAK Mr. Blonde barrel (also have their baby blond 6.25).  Bought the 7in and 10in for 2 separate builds but ended up only using one.  I do like the ability to swap out easily if needed.

The baby blonde has a 5.5 Odin Works rail which looks good.

I'm running the 9" BCM barrel on a franken upper, it's a 1/7 twist.

I like the 9" length, but like others said, with a can it pretty much comes out an inch or two shorter than a 16" barreled AR. I think when I build a 300 BO pistol next I'm going to use the KAK 6.25" barrel just to get it as short as possible (may become a car gun since I can't keep the SBR loaded and ready to go).

10" and as a sbr its great, but with the can its back to the same size as my 16"

With my hand loads im loosing very little between my 14.5 and 10 barrel, so part of me wishes I went with maybe a 8". Then again shooting as a sbr, not sure I like the idea of shorter, when I have fingers out that direction.

Mine is 6.25" its about the same length suppressed as my 10.5" is unsuppressed
works great with anything I've fed it ( ... Except unsuppressed with subs...) buy it mostly sees handloads
