I have an H buffer that came with my V5 but I assume I would need a heavier buffer for the 10.3" barrel...
What are you using for your similar length barrel? I will be using a suppressor at some point...will any said buffer work with both? I have only bought factory rifles so I haven't had to toy with this stuff yet. |

It's not so much bullet weight, but the loads that vary between commercial and military ammo. Also, imported ammo can be tricky in SBRs.
I tend to stay away from aftermarket springs, since the mil-spec springs work fine. You could try them... They aren't that expensive and you won't ruin anything. |

I have a DD 10.3" barrel in my SBR. I found that a H2 buffer slowed things down too much so I wasn't getting the bolt to hold open on the last round when the gun was dirty (I unfortunately didn't know about the dirty issue right away). When clean, the H2 buffer worked from anything from weak Tula to hot 5.56 loads so I would suggest testing your gun on the dirty side. I run a H buffer with mine now and I haven't had issues since I switched.
Back before I finished my build, I emailed DD about which buffer they install in their 10.3" guns. They said they use H buffers in their non-select fire guns. I should've listened to avoid the hassles that I encountered with the H2. ETA: I use standard springs in all of my AR's. If your SBR will only run properly with aftermarket springs, you need to switch to a standard spring and do more trouble shooting to find the real problem. |
