I just lean it in the corner of the safe.
Im not worried about it getting scratched. I didnt buy it to be a safe queen.

I've seen people put dowels into the bore to extend the length.

My safe is so full that I have to keep most of my uppers and lowers separate and stack them on top of other rifles..I do get quite a few scratches on them most of the time but, mine are definitely not a collectors piece..

My 10.3" 5.56 currently sits between my side of the bed and my night table, locked and loaded.
A casual glance won't even see it, but it is there.

what kind of optic? is it made of porcelain?

Not that its s special optic, just think that pressure of rifle rest on optic, it will loosen mount a lil.

Lean it over more so it leans on the barrel.  Also, I doubt a good scope mount will have any problems.

I usually store mine in a bag, loose.  I don't treat it real gentle or anything and the scope hasnt moved.

In the safe, on top of a couple thousand rounds of ammo.  That makes it plenty tall.  :)

I'm not sure who designs the shelving and the rifle brackets in most gun safes, but they must think all guns are the size of a shotgun with a 30" barrel minimum.  Most of my guns with 16" barrels don't hit the racks unless there is something attached to the barrel.  A standard flash hider will often just make it, but not always.

I had a 16" 10/22 that had a fake silencer when sitting in the safe for years.  (see, fake cans do have a useful purpose).

I ended up putting some wood blocks on the bottom of the safe to raise the shorter rifles up with.  SBRs had to just get leaned against other rifles.

The Uzi just reaches the rack if I have it on a 4x4 block and have the bayonet attached.  (see, putting poking instruments on firearms can be useful in this day and age as well.  )

My safe has adjustable shelves in it.  I just put one of the shelves about 8-10" from the bottom and put the shorties on there.  They reach the barrel notches just fine now.

It is a County Comm Sat Bag.  I got it used in the EE a while ago.  It has pockets on both sides that can hold two mags on each side.
