I like the idea of a light and compact SB AR15(11.5") but am not sure of the effects it might have on velocity, accuracy and other differences if might have compared to a 16" barrel. So how would a 11.5" barrel compare to a 16" barrel in all aspects?

Im sure a similar question has been asked before so if it would be easier please link me to the topic.

Thanks

Shouldn't affect accuracy in the least if you're using a quality barrel and ammo. Velocity will suffer a little. When comparing an 11 1/2 to a 16" barrel, I'd expect a couple hundred FPS less. An AR with an 11 1/2" barrel is still an effective carbine out to 3 or 400 yards. I can't think of a downside other than having to wait 6 months for your stamp to come back...

As far as accuracy? My 11.5" SBR with a 1:9 barrel can bust 3" clay pigeons all day at 50 yards with open sights and regular .223 ammo.

For velocity, you will see a noticeable decrease in velocity (rule of thumb for .223 is something like 50 fps per inch of barrel length). I actually did my own study on the subject with several different upper lengths using the same lot numbers of ammunition.

For example; using PMC XTAC M855 ammunition (muzzle velocity with 10 shot groups for an average):

20" barrel: 3009 fps
16" barrel:2860 fps
14.5" barrel:2768 fps
11.5" barrel: 2633 fps

Yes, velocity will be reduced, but not accuracy.   Velocity is a concern with the 5.56 round, as you need a certain velocity for it to fragment.  Using FMJ for plinking in an SBR is great fun.  However, if you ever plan to use it for defense, you'll want to carefully select your ammo.  Here are some good SD loads for SBRs (5.56).  These are listed in my order of preference.

1.  5.56 Black Hills 50 gr TSX
2.  Federal XM556FBIT3 - 62 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw
3.  5.56 Hornady TAP - I like 75 gr
4.  Speer 5.56 64 gr Gold Dot - I have only found .223 pressure, which is what many LEOs use in shorter ARs.

Most of this stuff is at least $1 per round.  So buy some to zero and ensure it reliably feeds then save the rest.
