What is the overall length of a SBR AR-15 with an 11.5 inch barrel? I'm filling out my form 1 and only have a lower with collapsing stock.
Thanks
Mike

Mine is 31.5" long, probably an inch longer since I'm running an AAC blackout flash hider mount. I would just round to 31" though on my ATF forms.

Different stocks can also cause OAL change. A Vltor Modstock is about 1" shorter than an EMod or LMT SOPMOD.

The ATF wants the OAL without the FH unless it is perm'd.

I'm going to buy a BCM 11.5 inch upper and my lower has a standard 6 position stock.

My Colt factory 6933, with 11.5" barrel, was Form 2'd by Colt as 30.5" overall.

Yes, stocks can change OA length by fractions, but I doubt that Colt uses a different OA length now that they are using the Rogers stock on some SBRs.

FWIW, in 20+ years of NFA ownership, I have never heard of ATF ever checking OA length with a micrometer.

Get it within an inch and you are gold.

YMMV.

What I was referring to would be in the instance that your Form 4 M16 shows xx.x" for a 10.5" gun because it has an A2 stock on it. If I wanted to put a collapsible on it to reduce the OAL (collapsed) it wouldn't be an issue since an ATF agent isn't going to ask to pull the muzzle device off and measure from threads and all. IMHO, OAL is pointless to have on the Form 1/4.  They're looking that you have a stamp for your weapon.

Hate to steal the thread, but i am wanting to send another form 1 out for a 9mm upper, but i am going to send out the form 4 for a can at the same time, my question is that i'm going to use a 5" barrel and the rail is going to cover all the barrel and some of the can too, so what OAL would i use for the form 1? since the barrel will be under the rail? thanks in advance

If the rail if removable, it is not included in the OA length. The only time an accessory changes the OA or barrel length is when it is permanently attached to the barrel or receiver, i.e., by welding, etc.

They measure with the stock fully extended anyway, so it doesn't really matter if you've got an A2 or an M4 stock on there, they're both going to be roughly the same overall length.

If you add 19.5" to the barrel length you should be good to go.

The form 4 on my Noveske has OAL 26.5" with a 10.5" barrel and no one said a word!

Like I said, odds are that no one will ever measure it.

But I've seen Form 4's that have all sorts of errors on them, and in general it's a good idea to write ATF a letter so that they can correct the NFA Registry. Send it in duplicate, and ask that they mark one copy as "received" and return it in an SSAE. That way, if ATF ever does tighten its policy and start strictly enforcing the accuracy of the Registry, you are covered.
