When moving to a new county or address, what should be done? Such as; should I inform the Sheriff of that county? Inform ATF? or is all this not required? I am asking this because I am going to be moving and I don't want to file for my SBR before I move if I am going to have a hassel of either the local politics or the feds. When I say move soon, it would be within 8 months or so. Should I wait or if I cannot wait, transfer my address to my parents and go that way until I have my new place figured out? This will be for both a SBR and Silencer.

Thank You!

Call the ATF and ask. You'll be able to get both the Form 4 Silencer and Form1/F4 SBR before then.

You don't have to notify the local LEOs about your weapons unless there's a legal requirement of registration and then NFA ownership is likely prohibited.

My local Chief and Sheriff won't sign off on SBRs, MGs, Silencers, etc. So, I used a Trust and they don't know a thing about what I legally own. All they know, if they happen to run a BG check, is I have a CCW license.

What about moving out of State. I live in Texas now and just found out I am being tranfered to Nebraska in April?

If you're moving out of state, you still fill out the 5320.20 with your new address inthe destination and "No" checked in the "will the items be returned to original location?" box.

In state moves technically don't require a change-of-address with the ATF, but it is a wise thing to do.

Sorry to bump an older topic..

Can you fill out multiple 5320.20s over the years as you continue to move? Does the engraving ever have to be changed?

I know for a fact I will change addresses at least 3 times in the next 10 years or so, possibly out of state a time or two. I may even end up permanently living in another state.

Yes.  There is no limit.

No, engraving doesn't have to change.  Think of it like this: would Colt need to recall all of their rifles and re-engrave them if their manufacturing plant moved?

So once you've registered the SBR properly you can move and change barrel lengths with nothing more than paperwork?

This SBR thing may be easier than I thought..

There is no paperwork needed to change barrel lengths.

ATF asks (but does not require) that you notify them in writing if you make a permanent change to the configuration of the rifle.
