Simple scenario here which I should hope should have a clear answer. I have a left handed Remington 700 long action that was put in a custom wood stock for target use sometime around 1979-1980. I'll eventually get it in a chassis, but want to shoot it now before I go any further with the project. The trigger needed to be swapped so I went for a Timney. After removing the old trigger I put the Timney on, it fit perfectly well, and succcessfully dry fired. The one thing that didn't work, however, is the safety which won't move to the rear. Taking it back out of the stock it works just fine, so it isn't mechanically defective just not moving freely once inside the stock.
So I tried to hollow out a little more room for it to move but still get nothing. I look at the stock and the trigger and keep cutting out just a little bit here and there where I think I should based on what I see and still no better. It moves maybe 2mm and no more to the rear. I must be (slowly and conservatively) digging in the wrong place, perhaps? Any tips on what to do? |

Quoted:
The timmney has a longer pin that is moved by the safety, side to side. It has to be clearanced in the stock for it to move. Edit, safety on and try dropping the action in the stock. You should be able to see where it interferes. The bottom metal causes problems sometimes, too. That may need to be clearanced as well. |
