Maybe some could give their opinion...I got one of these (hawk 982} and its been pretty
reliable but the sites gotta go the front site is like a grappling hook on everything. I was thinking of cutting it down to a stub or even cut a smaller blade about 1/8th high ofcourse the rear is already gone 2 screws see-ya. Maybe it's just soldered on ? |

I'm not sure about the Chinese guns, but I suspect the front sight is mounted just like the Remington: Brazed on with a high temp brazing compound.
These will typically melt at temps above 1100 degrees. That amount of heat will destroy the finish so either cut it off with a saw then finish removal by filing, or do what you said, just cut it down to better size. One option would be to cut and file the base down to about the size of the pedestal type bead sight mount Remington used, then drill and tap that for a bead sight. |
