The way I have had it explained to me is dwell time is the time from when the gas impulse at the port begins until the bolt unlocks.
Is this a correct statement? |
|
Quoted:
Dwell time is stated in many different terms/ways, but the generally accepted (base if you will) definition is the time interval between when the bullet passed the gas port and exits the muzzle. This is why the Garand was such a great design. The bullet is long gone before the unlocking starts. Thus not moving the weapon in the shooters hand. |

"Dwell time" has to be defined by the user. Those two words alone are meaningless.
One definition could be the dwell time of the complete firing cycle, from the start of the trigger pull to the time the bullet leaves the barrel. Another dwell could start with the shooter's decision to pull the trigger, and yet another could include the time until the bullet strikes the target. We have to ask exactly what is meant by the speaker. |

Just trying to get a better understanding of it so I have a coherent explaination and diagnosis. |
