The weld on a Surefire muzzle device must be flush or preferably a smidge below the surface of the device. Side pinning or straight pinning is acceptable as long as it can withstand 200 ft/lbs of torque, that is the benchmark the ATF uses.
FYI-the warranty on a Surefire can is null and void if the device is pinned. |

Do you have a reference for that 200 ft/lbs? I haven't seen that before and that is a whole lot of twist. I'm not sure that 200 ft/lbs won't shear a 1/8' pin. I do not. I had heard this a while back and I have searched high and low for any reference to it but have not been able to get anything in writing. I did ask a field agent with the ATF at a gunshow the same question. He did not know a certain number but he stated that to the best of his knowledge the scope of the ruling is any attempt to remove the device through normal means would permanently damage the barrel beyond repair. I have contacted the Technologies branch for a clarification. Agreed it is a bunch of torque, on an AR I think one would snap the receiver before the barrel would twist. |
