I have removed the front sight from my mini-14.
The barrel is .565 in diameter. I want to thread at 1/2x28 to install a threaded flash hider. Would like to know if I will need to reduce the barrel diameter to thread it. Thanks for any help. EDIT: I measured my AR barrel threads to answer my own question. It does need to be reduced to an outer diameter of .500. So I will begin sanding. This post can be removed if desired. Thank you. |

Careful OP. You want that barrel outside diameter to remain concentric with the rifle ID (bore). I would recommend having the barrel turned and single pointed on a lathe. That's a machinists point of view. IMHO. Yes, I am going to have a machine shop do it for me, I thought about that too. Thanks for your input. |
