I have removed the front sight from my mini-14.

The barrel is .565 in diameter. I want to thread at 1/2x28 to install a threaded flash hider.

Would like to know if I will need to reduce the barrel diameter to thread it.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I measured my AR barrel threads to answer my own question. It does need to be reduced to an outer diameter of .500. So I will begin sanding.

Careful OP. You want that barrel outside diameter to remain concentric with the rifle ID (bore). I would recommend having the barrel turned and single pointed on a lathe. That's a machinists point of view.

Yes, I am going to have a machine shop do it for me, I thought about that too. Thanks for your input.
