How hard would it be to modify the feed lips of a box magazine to work in a different firearm? I'm looking to use a BAR magazine in my older stagger feed Savage 110 8mm-06.
Adapting the magazine to the action was fairly easy, but getting the bolt to work reliably with the feed lips isn't. Any thoughts? |

You're probably getting interference between the receiver rails and the mag feed lips. The rails act as feed lips for the existing internal magazine. Since you can't have two sets of feed lips, you have to remove one or the other.
If you want a fixed magazine similar to the FN-49, remove the BAR mag feed lips. You now will have to recharge the mag from the top, because there's nothing to hold cartridges in when it's not in the rifle. If you have a bunch of BAR mags and want to have a detachable mag system, you'll have to remove the feed lips from the receiver rails, which will let the mag sit higher and feed correctly. |
