Yep; I succombed to the panic

I bought a parts kit

Those stupid little Suomis have been bugging me for a couple of years. I finally kicked for a parts kits and some magazines, since I was afraid YOmama was going to try to stop imports with an executive order, and they're damn sure going after magazines.

I don't know why I want one, since I'm mostly of the Townsend Whelen school, but it just looked like a fun project and a fun little gun to shoot. Turns out they ain't so little, wieghing in at almost 12 lbs.

I've apprenticed myself to my neighbor, he did all of the machine work on the Mauser project, letting me make a cut here and there to get a feel for the machines, but this one, I'm doing myself, under his tutlege.  This is a much more equitable situation for him; he gets to sit on a stool behind me and yell .....drink beer, and explain what an idiot I am...

It wouldn't be the internet if someone didn't complain ;>)  When filing in a lathe you should do so left handed,  it's safer.  (hands further from the chuck and you dont stand to get a file jammed in your belly if something goes wrong)

The Suomi looks good though!

Pic is my neighbor, I'll tell him the internet dissapproves of his technique.

It's crowded right there and he just wanted to knock down the edges before he let me hone the interior, so's the idiot didn't slice his hands to ribbons....

Yeah, when it comes to the internet there's always one isn't there?  My wife tells me I'm an azzhole,  I suspect she's right.

Took another nibble today, Figured out how to index and cut the lugs on the reciever in the mill. My first time, so it was an all day job for me...
But I'm happy with the results. The shroud locks on to the new reciever tighter than the original part.

Now we have to do the final barrel fitting and cut the indexing lug, then cut the ejection port and magazine  well.
