Has anyone got any ideas creating a side charging AR bolt and upper? I'm thinking about creating one for a scope mounted AR15.

Left side charging so as not to cut brass deflector and be able to operate in the prone.

Thanks in advance

Checkout Mega Machine I bought their upper through Rainer - Its a very nice side charging upper, and the Yankee Hill bolt carrier.  I here Les also makes a side charger.

You can get an idea with this video. I have mine set up as an NRA match rifle. We do a lot of single loading so the ambi lower is a nice feature for this type of setup.

I like the ASA left side charging set up.  Spendy, but to me more functional.  Your strong side never has to leave the gun (for right hand shooters).  To be truthful, I've never operated a side charger of any type, but to me it seems logical to operate bolt with the support side would be beneficial.

LAR Grizzly.   I almost bought one until I figured out you needed tools to remove the BC from the upper.

Not tools plural...only need one Allen wrench....the LAR uppers are pretty nice...I'v built on a dozen or so in the last couple of years...

Or you can just mill the side of a dpms slick side upper and drill and tap the carrier, works well.

Yep i did it to a LR308 ran like a charm . being prone and charging a 17 lb.rifle  where it was locked in your
shoulder was was a breeze . had over 1K through it when i traded it for a rare Tikka
