The actions below are all made by Zastava in Yugoslavia.  1,2 & 4 were inmported by Interarms and are 'Mark X' actions.  #2 was imported by Herters and is a 'Model XK3'

The CZ (#2) action is chambered in .308 Win and appears to be a 'short' action.  Would that be the proper way terminology/description of this action?  (1 & 3 are chambered in .30-06)

I measured the length of the action opening as shown below.  None of the four are exactly the same, but I believe the differences in 1,3, & 4 are manufacturing tolerances.  #2 is notably shorter and the bottom metal/magazine box is also much shorter.

I am planning to build one of these into a rifle for my son and eventually get rid of the others.  Does the 'short' action command any premium or have any reason use it instead of the Mark X's?  I do have a number of Bishop 'drop in' stocks for Mauser 98's and with some additional inletting they will work with the Mark X actions, but not the 'short' XK3.

Thanks for any information.  I hope this is the best forum to post this in, but I may post it elsewhere on Arfcom.

Send an IM to ziarifleman, he might know.  I have the Kuhnhausen book, but I'll have to go hunt it up, and I don't know if it will help.

About the only possible problem with using a long action for a shorter round is that the short rounds may move forward in the magazine.
In extreme cases this can cause bullet nose battering or even bullet set-back, or feed issues.
That's why some older long action rifles chambered for shorter rounds have magazine filler blocks in the front.

If the rifle operates properly, (and almost all of them do) there's nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the information.

I am going to keep one of the MarkX actions as the Bishop inletted stock I have won't work with the shorter action.  Which I did not realize until asking these questions.  Actually pretty obvious, but I missed it until now.
