I could post this over in GD and get a ton of answers, but this is directed more at gunsmiths/ armorers, so I'll post this here first and see if I can get some ideas.

I'm a department armorer for Glock, Colt, Remington and Mossberg

I work for multiple police agencies using different range facilities, so nothing stays at the range houses that you don't want to walk away...

For years I've lugged my armorer tools to and from the range in large ammo cans. I'm getting tired of digging through cans for what i want, and inevitably what I want is at the bottom of the can which means I then have to put everything back that I had to take out.. The numbers of tools have grown over the years as well, so I need both space to store everything and a way to lock it up so stuff doesn't grow legs on me.

I'd like to transition to a neater tool storage system thats still portable ( wont be taking a vice or other larger stuff to the field, for instance ) , but want to stay away from your typical "toolbox" layout, most of which seem to pretty cheaply built. I was toying with something like this http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=0450 but I really can't justify the cost, even as a tax deductible business expense.....

I figure that some of you gunsmiths have to spend a fair amount of time at ranges or on the road plying your trade. What system have you guys developed for lugging stuff around, if its not a surplus ammo can like I've always used or a fishing tackle box?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sears sells a huge variety of portable or semi portable boxes with drawers.  One box has a deep top compartment for power tools, just don't pile it deep so you have to dig for [/i]stuff[/i].

The smallest of the Kennedy machinist boxes sells for about $180 at some on line stores.

How much stuff and how much weight are you talking?

Come to think of it, I have seen ammo box organizers I just can't remember where.
