Im new to this section of arfcom.  Just never visited this tab before.

Im wanting to get into smithing my own ARs.  Id like to ask the experts here what brand action block you would recommend?

Welcome

I use this one. I don't have one for holding the lower receiver.

I think that is the one my friend has.  Did that product used to have a top rail block as well?  His does.

Would that receiver block give me the ability to do pretty much anything I would want to do? (i.e. change barrel, rail, etc...)

This one is the one that holds the upper or lower receiver. I don't have any experience with it.
I have only assembled a couple uppers and disassembled one, with the block I have, and it worked just fine.

No thats not it.  It looks like the first one except it has another piece that slides over the upper receiver rail.  Its made of the same material but im not sure its DPMS.

Ultimately as long as I can put together and take down uppers with the first thats all that matters.

Do I have any other options that people can recommend?

This is what I use for conventional uppers.  There are other types that comes in two pieces that will work for the billet or nonconventional type uppers.
