Series 70, Colt with a collet bushing.

I'd like to get a standard bushing (collet bushings are getting hard to find).

Does a smith alter the bushing, or the slide, or both in fitting a new one?

Thanks for any info.

You always alter the cheapest part 1st.

So the bushing will get fit to the slide.

The bushing is fitted to the slide, and reamed or lapped to fit the barrel.

I was pretty sure of that.

Just wanted to confirm.

Thanks,  I appreciate the input.

ETA:  If a new bushing is somewhat larger than the barrel, how do they "tighten" the new bushing to fit the barrel?  Or do they?

Get a bushing that requires fitting (instead of a "drop in" bushing) and that should not be an issue (as long as your barrel is in spec - if your barrel was previously altered for some reason all bets are off)

Weld it up and then recut it. Easier to just buy an undersize bushing.
