| i have a custom 284 on a sako action manlicher stock made about 20 years ago, any how long story short id like to rebarrel it to a 7.62x39 any idea how i know what barrel will fit it and where is a good source to find one. thank you! |

You will have to have a custom barrel made from a blank.
The blank will have to be threaded, contoured, chambered and crowned. Then the new barrel will have to be blued or refinished to match the receiver. I expect finding a blank with a bore diameter of 0.311 inches will be difficult and expensive. Charles.

Well.....you have a bolt face that is .473.........same as 308 and 243 . Both very common , both very accurate .
Either would be great small to medium game hunting cartridges ,and great target rounds out to 1000 yards as well.... and both are favorite calibers of mine. Any of the common barrel manufacturers will be happy to sell you a blank.....or your least expensive option , you could shop for a lightly used take-off barrel for $50-$100 and have the threads turned back and then re-chambered by your smith (losing about 1" - 2" of OAL when finished) On a budget , I would go the 'take-off' route and have it re-crowned at the same time . You'll probably wind up with a rifle that is as accurate as you could be with off-the-shelf Wall Mart ammo ...... and probably more accurate than most shooters with quality target ammo or re-loads. Keep us posted on your build. |
