I would like to make a semi auto Thompson M1 look as close as possible to a real full auto thompson. The lower received on a semi auto is different than the full auto version and can not accept full auto parts. So would it be illegal if someone installed a fake selector on this lower? Would it be ok if a hole were drilled all the way through the receiver? Thanks.

I've read this is doable and the selector switch is also used as the bolt hold open catch.
