First post!!! (Yes - I'm a newbie)... I have been following AR15.com for a couple years, though.
Okay - 40th birthday coming up - limited funds - and I really want a PCC. The only problem is - which one. I have read the limited posts on each of the models below - and are still wondering which to get. Of course if money were no object this wouldn't be so difficult. I have about $800 to spend (hey - I've got a family...). I have been following the posts for the WLA Sterling, KelTec, and Beretta CX4 Storm (and elsewhere on the UZI). I want something simple to operate, reliable, cheap to fire (I plan on getting a lot of trigger time) - and something that - ultimately - will become an SBR. I would love a larger caliber carbine (KRINKOV!!!) - but unfortunately, there's nowhere to shoot here except pistol ranges - so I am pretty limited (no AR15 or AK's). So with that - and the amount of cash listed above (I can probably get a little more... it's not a FINITE thing) - what would each of you purchase and why? Also - any deals out there to be had? THANK YOU!!! http://www.hip2b2.com/images/uploaded_images/bullets.jpg |

I'd extend my vote for the CX4 in 9mm. I have one. It's super fun to shoot, very accurate for a 9mm weapon, it's light, easily customizeable, and if you get the 92 mag type CX4 you can find 30rd mags for it. Mine came with PX4 mags, so I'm definitely going to get a PX4 9mm as my CCW and keep the CX4 in the trunk for ease of training and mag compatibility should the need ever arise. I have my Streamlight TLR-1 on the front of it (slide out rail under the bbl) and a Tango Down VFG which holds two CR123s for the light. My aimpoint red dot also uses CR123s but it's life is significantly longer than the light's––-so I don't keep an extra battery for it.
I have no experience with the other PCCs you listed, however I like my weapons to be ergonomic. If there were 1 thing I'd change about the CX4 it would be putting a fixed stock on it that resembles my LMT SOPMOD stocks on my ARs––-supremely comfortable. Other than that, it's a great and fun weapon to shoot. Happy upcoming 40th. |
| Thanks, LMTRocks! I have been looking at the CX4 for a while now. I really like it - seems like a blast (no pun intended) to shoot - small with all the right stuff. Does anyone know if there are alternative furniture for the CX4? Sounds like it is in my price range - which makes it even better!!! |

Does anyone know if there are alternative furniture for the CX4? Sounds like it is in my price range - which makes it even better!!! The thumbhole-ish stock is the only reason I still don't have a storm...I had one, sold it becasue I couldn't get used to the politically correct stock.....thought I was over it, bought another one...only to sell it again for the same reason. I have owned damn near every semi-auto PCC there has been..not braging at all, just saying..... If you could do an AR in 9mm for that money, that would be my first choice...it would be close, but I think you could do it. If they had a normal stock for the STorm...it would be a great little gun.....it still is, if you like the stock. The Uzi is a legend, but if you plan to shoot it alot, not a real user friendly legend I don't think the Keltec is ideal for a range gun that gets alot of trigger time either...they are great for a tuck away gun that you are going to shoot now and then and use for SHTF...perfect little design for that, but for lots of shooting, I think they have an overly violent recoil for a 9mm carbine. I am not saying painful....just seems like they are going to beat themselves apart. My $0.02...enjoy Back to the AR......I think I have owned 3 of them in different variations. I no longer have one, but am planning a build again. The only thing I don't like about the AR in 9mm is f-ing around with mags and mag block combinations. Sure you can get a reliable setup, but it is sometimes hit and miss getting the right combination, etc.. My current plan eliminates that issue and also lets me use mags that I already have in my stable.....the Lone Wolf Glock lower. I am waiting for the day I get my e-mail saying they are back in stock...it appears to be within the next month...or so they say Lastly.....IF/WHEN the MicroTech MCS glock mag bullpup comes out...I will buy that too. |
