Not totally tactical but I did have it threaded for a can and it breaks in half so I hope that counts.

@CaptainShiess, who did your thread job, rough cost (if you don’t mind), and does anyone make a scout rail for those?

Thanks!

I wanted one of those in a bad way, but never had the money when they were available, or I was flush with cash when there were none to be had.

Bought an 1894 instead, before they also went nuts.

Maybe a bit off topic, but not much...  I recall reading years ago about converting a rossi92 to takedown:  Here.

Surprisingly simple if you live with the full threads rather than interrupted threads for 1/4 turn removal.

@Seven-Shooter

Thanks for the links. Even though this is a small sample size, I'll still keep an eye out for any issues. Sounds like I mainly need to take care not to bend the contacts during battery changes. Luckily with the RPP muzzle brake on my 1895, the recoil is very tame. It feels about the same as my 6.5 creedmoor AR10.

has anyone tried an acog in a low mount on a lever gun?

Something like a ta33 or ta44?

I don't have either to try, or else I would myself.

It's funny that you mention this, because I was just considering the same idea.

If I have any down time this week, I'll take my 33 off of my SR15 and throw it onto my BBX44 and see how it fits. Full disclosure, my 33 is on a 1.93 mount, so...

One might get more utility out of a 1-6 LPVO.

I was wondering about this recently; I think the eyebox and mount height might come into play.

Planning to try a PA cyclops prismatic on my 1894, it should be here in the next couple days.  Stretching past the manufacturer spec's on the eyebox, but it should work based on rough testing I did with another one I own that already lives on something else.

The cyclops is what kinda spurred this on. Of course, they are rare as hens teeth up here.  The reason I specifically mentioned the ta33 is the longer eye relief. I just haven't ever handled one, or seen if it's possible to get a "low" mount for them

I'd appreciate a report back if you get the chance. In theory, the idea of a fixed prism scope makes sense on a lever gun. No fussing about with magnification, smaller footprint, lighter, etc.

Have you seen any low mounts for the the ta33? I know it's possible to low mount a ta44 to something like an ak or pcc as I've owned one before, but I have little experiences with the ta33.

I presently have a 1-4 NightForce on my .45-70 dark, and while it works pretty well, I can't help but wonder what else is out there....

Well... RPP MLOK rail has arrived, unfortunately mounting it isn’t exactly super easy (given my lack of experience and knowledge). I believe you have to pull the tube magazine to install the replacement tenon and for to slide the rail over the tube.

ya. XS sights used to make a low picatinny mount ghost ring sight (like this that I thought about trying to find to mount ahead of the scope in case of failure, but it's not easy to find XS stuff up here.

The low mount makes it shoulder easier. The reticle is the FC-2, so it's easy to find in a hurry too.

can you send me one of those links? I can't find a single link on how to dissasemble the tube from the firearm. I'm leaning toward taking it to Lohman (thats who RPP reccomends) to have them install it (and so that they can laugh at how I bubba'ed getting the OEM handguard off).

I couldn't find links specific to the Henry X, but there's a whole tutorial for installing the RPP rail on Marlins. Guessing it's fairly similar. No need to pay someone else to do this. Do it yourself and it will mean so much more to you in the long run... Very gratifying.

I'll look to see if I can find any youtube links for Henry X install tomorrow.

Ah. Cut of the OEM forearm. I did that. You really just have to cut the part that fits between the barrel and the tube magazine. The rest is salvageable. I don’t know how to install the new tenon nor fit the rail over the tube.

I hope that you can figure it out, but it seems like you might be right about how different it is from a Marlin install. I've been trying to look for tutorials online for you, but so far, no joy. I did find this on the Ranger Point website:

"Gunsmith Installation: Unlike Marlin Firearms, Henry Repeating Arms rifles can be a bit more complicated for an amateur DIYer to take apart for the install. As such, we do not provide installation instructions and recommend that you use a qualified Henry gunsmith. We've worked out a deal for you with Louthan Gunworks that will install it for less than $100 and within 3-5 business days. Feel free to ship the part to them with your order and follow up to ship your rifle to them for the install.

*If you do decide to install it yourself, please note that we can not provide any disassemble advice and will not be liable for any damage to your rifle*

I finally feel like I can contribute again.

Same WML as before, but now it has a leather butt cuff, embossed leather sling, and a green PA ACSS prismatic optic in a LaRue LT661 mount.

The optic is so close to the rear sight that I can't turn the ocular to focus it, as the knurling hits the rear iron.

Now I should probably get out and shoot it

Beautiful work there, brother! Love the black on gray look. It always feels good when you finally get your toys back from the manufacturer after warranty service/replacement. Hell, I just waited for about twelve weeks on Steiner to send me a replacement CQBL-1 laser. It was delayed due to several logistical mix-ups and probably could have been done in about a week if folks were dialed in. Oh well. The important thing is that it's back now.

Let me know how you like the prismatic. Not familiar with the eye relief on these, but would it be possible to move it forward a few slots to clear the rear peep, or would you lose the image?

Thank you!

Regarding the eye relief, this thread of mine covers those optics in a bit more detail.  I'm already at about 2x the mfr. recommendations for eyebox.  There is a triangular, minimal loss of FOV already, but not the deep black circle yet.

I have no complaints, given how far I pushed it past design limitations.

Good news everyone!

My local smith mounted the rail in 10 min and charged me $25. The smith that RPP suggests wanted $95+ tax and a week minimum. You have to knock the retaining ring for the magazine out of its dovetail.

Pics to follow tonight.

I’m waiting on the Arisaka LoPro MLOK rail section for the laser and need to remount the RDS.

Now I want one of the RPP optic rails + peep so that it looks more organic to the firearm.

Hell yeah man! It's coming together now. $25 is a whole hell of a lot better than $100 and having to send your gun away. Glad you found a solution.

I had no idea that Henry rail was bridged so high above the action like that. I agree with lowering it down to receiver height with one of the RPP offerings. Someone posted this to their website and I thought it looked pretty slick.

RPP CloverLeaf Adjustable Peep Rail

There's also a dude on Reddit who modified an XS Sights Lever Rail for Marlins to work with his Henry X. Pretty curious about that one, but probably only a matter of time before they make a Henry X option, if not already.

More pics, please. Curious to see other creative twists.

Also, my Marlin Dark 336 (30-30) is en route to my FFL. Suggestions on setup are more that welcome, but thinking I may keep this one more "stock" and leave the wooden forend. I haven't decided what direction to go yet, but I might hold off on shooting or modding it until it's determined if Ruger will resume production of the Dark line. Weighing options...

I'm with you. Might just shelve it for a while until we know what Ruger's plans are. Maybe get a scope in reserve for use this summer if they start up production again.

Non permanent mods wouldn’t be an issue. I just wouldn’t be drilling and tapping. Heck, if it’s NIB, I might shelve it for a while.

[Last Edit: Steamedliver] [#50]
This is a Marlin 357, factory threaded.

I really like the scout scope on it.  I like how it balances and I like the way it looks.

I need the scope pushed forward another 1-1.5 CM, but the rail won’t allow that.  Where I need the scope mount to go is where the rail has a screw point.

I need to change to a two piece mount and try to get it more forward.

So if you know of a quality two piece LOW cantilever 1 inch scope mount for a picatinny rail, let me know.
